Bill –
Hello Bill,
I have been experimenting with the three solutions I received: FLAME F/X™, BLUE HALO™ and BLUE-BLACK F/X™ (GELS). I am very impressed by them. I am using them to attempt matching the random pattern and tone of color case hardening. I was drawn to your product by the prospect of being able to create the coloration of color case hardening without using a heat treating process (which I also do) I think these products are great for restoring classic firearms that are too valuable to risk by quenching in water during the heat method of case coloring.
Your products are GREAT!! My last attempt on a Q panel exactly matched the coloration of any replica gun from Italy. I only used FLAME F/X™ and and BLUE HALO™. The application technique is critical. I have documented my application technique which follows your guidelines in the E-book. My next phase of experimentation is to apply the same two compounds over a base layer of COPPER F/X™ (like you recommend). While also applying the FLAME F/X™ and BLUE HALO™ (judiciously) over a base layer of french gray. The Idea is to match the coloration found on high end restorations.
These Gel Patinas are easy to use and very fast to use as well. I will also be testing any sealant or rust barrier qualities and abrasion resistance of a full application of these Patinas. I know any finish will wear with abuse (I just want to know how it holds up). I am very intrigued by and pleased with my purchase. I will be ordering again, soon.
If you have any additional tips I would like to know them.
Thank You, Kind Regards
Ray
