Question by Ashley T: 6-27-14
Will the darker patinas, like BRONZE F/X™, BLACK F/X™ & FLAME F/X™ work on rusty steel?
Answer: All of the darker patinas, like BRONZE F/X™ & BLACK F/X™ will work on and darken any steel substrate, regardless of the condition of the steel.
However, the “look” of the patinas over rusted steel will be different than if applied to shiny steel.
Good question, but the best answer is: They will work, but some experimentation is definitely called for, as it would be difficult to remove the patinas from rusted steel w/o disturbing the original ‘rusty steel look’ beneath.
Let me know how it goes & send a photo of your project if you have time.
thanks,
Bill

Bill building a brand new shop. Are your patinas safe to have rise water enter to public sewage system?
BILL WORDEN (verified owner) –
Yes, absolutely! Far safer than toilet bowl cleaner, which we all use and flush.
Our patinas are very, very safe & <1% Acid, if they have any acid at all. Thanks, Bill 👍

Hi Bill,
Our fireplace hearth turned out great! Thank you so much for walking me through the process over the phone. The base material in the photo is sheet steel that we treated with your Bronze FX and adhered directly over our old tile. Many people don’t have a clue what it is and assume it is stone of some kind.
Thanks again. Leah A.
